Lizzo signs exclusive TV deal with Amazon

Pop singer Lizzo has signed a deal with Amazon to make exclusive TV content for the streaming site.

The star, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, revealed the news on a virtual press call alongside Co-Heads of Television at Amazon Studios, Albert Cheng and Vernon Sanders.

"I’m so excited to partner with the amazing team at Amazon," she said according to Deadline.

"Thank you to Jen Salke and the rest of the team for making this dream come true. I can’t wait to get started and share my vision with the world."

Salke, head of Amazon Studios, added: "Lizzo is one of the most exciting, creative, joyful artists in the industry, and it is such a pleasure to announce this new deal with her.

"She has such a unique perspective and we’re so excited to hear her ideas for new content that our Prime Video customers are sure to love."

Lizzo will be developing and producing a series for Amazon.

And although the singer is no stranger to the world of film - she starred in the 2019 hit Hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez - this will be her first move into TV.

The star had her big break with her third album Cuz I Love You, released in April 2019, which includes tracks such as Juice and Tempo.
