Meet Connie Titchen, thought to be the oldest person in Britain to send Covid-19 packing at the age of 106

Connie Titchen,  who at 106 is believed to be Britain's oldest patient to recover from Covid-19, has been discharged from hospital.

The great-grandmother was admitted to Birmingham City Hospital in March with suspected pneumonia but later tested positive for the virus.

On her departure from hospital, Connie, who lived through both world wars, said: "I feel very lucky that I've fought off this virus. I can't wait to see my family,"

News of her phenomenal recovery was released by Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust on twitter.

Alongside a video of the ex-department store manager being applauded as she left the hospital, they wrote: "We'd like to give our own round of applause to Connie who at 106 is heading home from City Hospital having successfully beaten #Coronavirus.

"She is our oldest patient to beat the virus - and may well be the oldest in the country to do so! #ClapForConnie."

Connie's granddaughter, Alex Jones, attributed her recovery to an active life-style and home-cooked food.

She reported that her grandmother loved to cycle, dance and play golf and 'always cooked for herself'.

However, she also revealed 'she likes a cheeky McDonald's every now and then' but has not yet had the heart to break the news to Connie that the fast food chain is currently closed across the country.

Sister Kelly Smith, who was part of the team looking after Ms Titchen, said: "It's been fantastic to see Connie recover.

"She is amazing and we've been doing our best to nurse her back to health.

"We were really pleased when she was given the all clear. It's nice to see patients leave our ward after having beaten this virus," she added.
