Megan Rapinoe's NWSL boss Vlatko Andonovski takes over as US women's football team head coach

Megan Rapinoe's NWSL boss Vlatko Andonovski has been named as the new head coach of the USA's World Cup winning football team.

Jill Ellis stood down from her role after her final game in charge on October 6 and left some big shoes for her successor to fill, having won two World Cups during her tenure. Her assistant coach, Tony Gustavsson also stepped down after an eight-year stint with the team.

Andonovski, 43, is currently the head coach at Reign FC, where FIFA Player of the year Rapinoe plays alongside England striker Jodie Taylor and Wales' Jess Fishlock.

Rumours had been rife that England manager, Phil Neville was being lined up for the role but the former Manchester United player was quick to quash those and pledged to continue with his Lionesses.
