MMA star Angela Lee slams online bullying following tragic Hana Kimura death

MMA star Angela Lee has urged social media users 'to think twice' before posting comments online following the death of Japanese wrestler Hana Kimura.

The ONE Championship atomweight winner said she 'wished' she could have helped Kimura who died last month at the age of 22.

The cause of Kimura’s death has not been confirmed but reports have suggested she had been severely troubled by offensive comments on social media.

Aside from her wrestling career, she was among the cast of the popular Japanese reality series ‘Terrace House’.

Lee, 23, posted on her social media that being in the public eye puts a lot of pressure on people and warns that staying positive all the time means one little thing can 'push you over the edge'.

She wrote: "Constantly being in the public eye will put a lot of pressure on anyone.

"Now add people's judgements, criticism, ignorant comments, hateful comments... That's enough to push anyone over the edge.

"I don't understand why people feel the need to spread negativity and ill wishes to another person, whom they have never even met.

“Your words can uplift and heal someone but they can also knock down and destroy someone. Please, think twice before you speak. It could save someone's life.”

Since Kimura’s death Japan has said it is looking at introducing laws to combat cyberbullying.
