Namibian politician named Adolf Hitler wins election

Namibian politician Adolf Hitler Uunona has won a council election but was quick to point out - ‘I don’t want world domination’.

Uunona, 54, won 85 per cent of the vote in the regional council election in Oshana.

He told Bild: “My father named me after this man. He probably didn't understand what Adolf Hitler stood for. As a child I saw it as a totally normal name. Only as a teenager did I understand that this man wanted to conquer the whole world.

“The fact I have this name does not mean I want to conquer Oshana. It doesn't mean I'm striving for world domination.”

His name was abbreviated to Adolf H on the voting ballot and he said he is usually referred to as Adolf Uunona.

The southern African country of Namibia was controlled by Germany until 1915. The rule was then handed to South Africa before the country won its freedom in 1990.
