Netherlands manager Sarina Wiegman is the Football Association’s preferred choice to replace Phil Neville as England boss next summer.

The 50-year-old has coached the Dutch national team since January 2017 when she was promoted from the assistant role after Arjan van der Laan’s sacking.

Since then, she has led the Netherlands to European Championship glory in 2017 and the World Cup final last summer where they were beaten by holders United States.

Wiegman is currently under contract until next year.

Meanwhile, Neville, who has been in charge of England since 2018, will leave the Lionesses in July 2021 when his contract expires.

The 43 year-old was left disappointed at the World Cup as his side were dumped out in the semi-finals by the US.

Former US manager Jill Ellis, who won back-to-back World Cups before leaving the role, is also thought to be in the frame for the position.

It is not yet clear whether Neville will take charge of the Great Britain team at the Olympics next year.

The delayed Tokyo Games are taking place between July 23 and August 8.
