New England Patriots sign quarterback Cam Newton on one-year contract

Six-time Super Bowl champions New England Patriots have signed quarterback Cam Newton on a one year contract,

He is set to replace their star quarterback Tom Brady, who left in March to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reports ESPN.

The 31 year-old will now be competing for the position against Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

He shared his excitement on Instagram on Sunday night, saying: "I’m as excited as I don’t what right now!!.

“All praise to God!! Dropping content tomorrow!! I hope you’re ready!! #Let’sgoPats.”

The NFL Network reported Newton’s contract is worth up to $7.5 million.

Newton has spent his entire nine-year career with the Carolina Panthers and is a former No 1 overall draft pick. He was released by the Panthers in March after spending the last two seasons injured.
