Normal People’s Paul Mescal ‘weeping’ over co-star Daisy Edgar Jones’ Emmy snub

Normal People star Paul Mescal has said he would have nominated Daisy Edgar-Jones for an Emmy and is disappointed she isn’t up for the gong.

Mescal has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category for his work as Connell in the hit show based on Sally Rooney’s novel.

He told Vulture: "If it was me I would have given her all the love in that category.

"I can’t speak highly enough of the work she did on the show. I know there are extraordinary actresses nominated in that category, but I think Daisy’s work is just phenomenal in this."

The female category features the likes of Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and The Crown’s Olivia Coleman.

And despite being overlooked for the awards, Edgar-Jones shared her congratulations to Mescal and director Lenny Abrahamson who is nominated for Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Movie Or Dramatic Special.

She wrote on Instagram: "I could not be more proud of these two utterly incredible people, working with you both has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

“Also huge congrats to @louisekielycasting, you’re incredible, and also Sally and Alice and @element_pictures, we smashed it”

Mescal commented on the post saying: "You are the best person. Properly weeping x."

The Emmy’s will take place on May 31 in a virtual ceremony and will be hosted by US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.
