North Carolina Courage dominate once again as they beat Sky Blue FC 2-0 in NWSL Challenge Cup

North Carolina Courage remain unbeaten throughout the preliminary rounds of the National Women’s Soccer League Challenge Cup after a 2-0 win against Sky Blue FC last night.

Courage were dominant from the kick off and their pressure earned them a corner kick early on.

Lynn Williams’ cross landed at captain Abby Erceg’s feet but she couldn’t get her shot away so passed to Sam Mewis who fired into the left-hand corner to put Courage 1-0 up after seven minutes.

Sky Blue’s keeper Kailen Sheridan was kept busy throughout the half making several saves, the best of which came to deny Crystal Dunn in the 27th minute.

Blue also had a chance in the 38th minute as Jennifer Cudjoe aimed for the top right corner but Courage keeper Katelyn Rowland caught the attempt cleanly.

As the second half began both sides pressed for a goal. Sheridan made another amazing save in the 48th as Debinha Miri struck a powerful free kick.

While a minute later, Blue’s Sabrina Flores had a shot that just cleared the crossbar.

However, Courage showed their superioity once again as their second goal came in the 56th. Lynn Williams made a great break and crossed the ball into Dunn who slotted home to double their lead.

The two teams will next play in the quarter-finals, Courage will face Portland Thorns on July 17 and Sky Blue FC will play Washington Spirit on July 18.
