Para-swimmer Alice Tai has ambitions of switching sport to compete at Winter Games

Paralympic swimming champion Alice Tai is keen to switch sports in order to compete at the Winter Paralympics in two years.

Tai, who has won eight World Championship gold medals, says she wants to take up skiing as she has experience in the sport already.

She told The Telegraph: "I am absolutely serious. I've not tried sit-skiing before, but I used to ski with adapted boots. I was chatting to some of the people in the British team and they were pretty keen about it.

"I think they suggested 2026, but in my head, I was like why not 2022? I managed to do pretty good at rowing in like four months. So I have faith in myself."

While Tai, who was born with bilateral talipes, has an eye on what she will do next, her coach Dave Heathcock is bringing her focus back to the Paralympics next summer.

"My coach laughs at me when I talk like this. He takes me seriously but thinks I’m crazy - which is fair enough. He was like, after Tokyo, you can do whatever you want. Just please get through Tokyo first."
