Prime Minister Boris Johnson 'stable' and 'in good spirits' in hospital says No 10

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is 'stable' and in 'good spirits' despite being admitted to the intensive care unit at St Thomas' Hospital on Monday evening, Downing Street have confirmed.

It was also established Mr Johnson, 55, is not on a ventilator, although he did receive oxygen last night before being transferred to the ICU.

A statement from Downing Street on Tuesday said: "The Prime Minister has been stable overnight and remains in good spirits. He is receiving standard oxygen treatment and is breathing without any other assistance.

"He has not required mechanical ventilation or non-invasive respiratory support."

Mr Johnson, who has now had the virus for 11 days since testing positive on March 27, will remain in hospital.

More than 50,000 Britons have now tested positive for coronavirus, with 5,373 deaths.
