Sisters murder accused told officers he was ‘scared and confused’

11 June 2021

A teenager accused of killing two sisters in a savage knife attack told police he was “confused” and “scared” after his arrest, a court has heard.

Danyal Hussein, 19, is accused of repeatedly stabbing Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, after seeking a blood pact with a demon.

The women had been celebrating Ms Henry’s birthday in Fryent Country Park in Wembley north-west London, when they were set upon in the early hours of June 6 last year.

Their bodies were found by friends under a hedgerow nearby the following day.

After his arrest early on July 1, police recovered an agreement allegedly signed by Hussein in his blood pledging to a demon to “sacrifice” six women every six months in exchange for winning the Mega Millions Super Jackpot.

Tucked into the note were three lottery tickets for the Lotto Draw, Thunderball and EuroMillions draws, which had been bought at Asda on June 29 last year, jurors heard.

On Friday, the jury viewed CCTV footage of Hussein as he was taken into custody at Wandsworth Police Station.

Asked about injuries to his hand, Hussein said: “I was getting robbed.”

On how how he felt, he said: “I’m really confused, scared.”

He went on to tell officers that he had autism, specifically Asperger’s syndrome.

Pc William Lucas was among the officers deployed to arrest Hussein armed with Tasers.

He told the court how Hussein was not found at his father’s address near Fryent Country Park.

Officers used lights and sirens as they drove to south-east London to Hussein’s mother’s home.

Pc Lucas said: “I immediately recognised the male who opened the door as Danyal Hussein.

“He was instructed to place his hands on his head by colleagues.

“I told him he was under arrest on suspicion of murder. I explained to him he had been linked to two murders in Fryent Country Park and gave the date June 6 2020.

The officer told jurors that Hussein replied: “Yeah, that’s me and my grandma’s address.”

Pc Lucas went on: “I noticed he had several cuts to his right hand. I counted three sets of stitches”.

He added that the defendant appeared to be “quite calm”.

Jurors heard how Hussein had been treated in hospital for an injury to his hand after the women’s deaths.

Hussein, of Guy Barnett Grove, Blackheath, south-east London, has denied double murder and possessing a knife.
