Sky Brown on her horrific skateboarding accident: ‘It’s made me a braver girl, I’m not going to stop’

Young skateboarder Sky Brown has spoken about her life-threatening accident and has said it has made her ‘braver’.

The 12 year-old was hospitalised with a fractured skull, lacerations to her heart and lungs, broken fingers and a broken arm after her fall in May.

She told The Telegraph: "[I fell and] The next thing I remember was waking up in hospital.

“They were only allowing one person from my family in. I’m pretty sure I saw my mum first and she was crying. It made me feel really bad. They were really scared. I didn’t want them to feel scared.”

If it were not for the coronavirus pandemic forcing the Olympics to be pushed back a year, Brown would be becoming Britain’s youngest ever athlete.

But she still has her eyes on Tokyo and says the accident has not deterred her from competing.

“You’re going to fall sometimes, it’s an accident and I don’t want that to stop me from doing what I really love.

"Skateboarding is literally the best. It just made me a braver girl, so much so. I’m not going to stop.”
