Alex Morgan makes her debut at last but Spurs have to settle for 1-1 draw against Reading

Tottenham Hotspur battled in a scrappy match against Reading that ended in a 1-1 draw this afternoon and saw US star Alex Morgan make her debut in the Women’s Super League.

A disjointed first half of football saw injuries galore as Reading's Deanna Cooper was an early substitute and Spurs' Rianna Dean also went through the wars as she needed treatment for a hit to the face.

Despite the injuries the intensity of the game served up some great goals as Brooke Chaplen broke the deadlock in the 12th minute as she hit in a cross from Jess Fishlock to get the visitors ahead.

Spurs reacted well, creating chances and they equalised in the 24th through Ashleigh Neville from a corner kick served up by Siri Worm.

Though both sides had many other chances in the half it remained 1-1 heading into the break.

The second half continued just as the first did with free kicks and ferocious battles in midfield.

While there were many chances for both sides in the half the talking point was Morgan’s debut as she came on for Dean in the 68th minute.

Her first 20 minutes in the league saw her make a few breaks and hit a clever pass to try and get an attacking play going for Spurs.

Despite the World Cup winner’s presence Spurs couldn’t find a winner and neither could Reading leaving both clubs taking a point.

Next up in the WSL Spurs take on Bristol City and Reading compete against Everton on November 14.
