Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier confirmed for trilogy fight on August 15

Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will do battle for the UFC Heavyweight Championship for a third time on August 15.

Champion Miocic exacted revenge for his first round defeat back in July 2018 by stopping the American fighter with a barrage of strikes in August last year.

And now the pair will do battle once more as both look to settle the score for their respective knockout defeats.

Speaking about the fight being formally announced, Cormier said: "This one is for all the marbles.  1-1, both knockouts but great fights, I can’t wait to fight this dude again!!

"Now it’s time to work as hard as I ever trained. #weareaka #zinkinsportsmanagement #2xheavyweightchamp 2xlightheavyweightchamp."

That comes after Miocic tweeted a cryptic message on Sunday which read: “The time has come. Who’s ready!?#SM #AndStil."

Miocic, 37, is four years younger than his US counterpart and holds a professional MMA record of 19 victories and three defeats.

Meanwhile, Cormier turned 41 in March but remains one of the hardest men to beat in the heavyweight division.

He has lost just twice in 24 bouts as his second defeat to Jon Jones was ruled a no contest due to Jones testing positive for steroids.

Dana White has already expressed excitement at the proposition of his ’Fight Island’ getting underway in Abu Dhabi in July.

However, there is no indication this fight will be taking place there as reports suggest the US is a more likely location for the heavyweight dust-up.
