Tesco Christmas ad forgives ‘naughty’ behaviour during the pandemic

14 November 2020

Tesco has released its 2020 Christmas advert, encouraging shoppers to forget about all the “naughty” things they did in 2020.

The retailer is set to premiere the advert on Saturday evening during ITV’s The Voice.

Celebrating dodgy lockdown haircuts and bad video call etiquette, the advert claims there is “no naughty list” this year, as the population has had to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We know that the festive ads mark the start of the season for a lot of people… and that this year, customers were looking for something fun and uplifting, that would help spread a little joy,” said Alessandra Bellini, Tesco’s chief customer officer, in a statement.

“When we talked to friends, colleagues and customers about the concept, everyone instantly confessed to the naughty things they’ve done during 2020 with a wry smile.

“We hope it resonates with people and gets them talking.”

Also released is Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, with the first of three videos out on Saturday.

Gravy Song, about a father and daughter reminiscing about his gravy, is the first to be released, with Perfect Portions out on Monday, and Big Sarnie released on Thursday.

The supermarket also announced the return of its charity campaign, which will see Sainsbury’s match customer donations up to £4 million from December 1 to 14.
