US President Donald Trump says anti-malaria drug to be used in fight against coronavirus

President Trump has announced that the anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine will be made available almost immediately in a bid to fight coronavirus.

Mr Trump was speaking at a press conference from the White House and said the drug had been quickly approved by the Food and Drug administration.

Hydroxychloroquine works by regulating the activity of the immune system and thus modifying the underlying issue rather than just treating symptoms.

He said: "I want every American to know we’re doing everything we can. It’s a very exciting time for medicine."

President Trump also revealed over 10,000 people have now tested positive for the virus in the US.
