US soccer star Megan Rapinoe has urged people to 'stay at home' and 'stay connected' during self-isolation due to the coronavirus.

Rapinoe, 34, plays in the National Women's Soccer League in the US, but the league has stopped all team training due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

On her Instagram story she said: "Hey everybody, it's Megan here, gosh I've had such a busy day. I woke up, I ate breakfast, I took a nap, I did a work out and now I have anther really big thing on my agenda.. it's time to play scrabble with my girl Alex.

"She said we pretty much have nothing going on like most people so this is actually on the real a really fun way to stay connected with community and with friends and take your mind off some things.

"So I'm hitting the scrabbles, I'm going to need all the tips, she took scrabble in college it's not fair, wish me luck."

Rapinoe recently criticised the NWSL for their wording in a statement to do with the coronavirus.
