US TV series ‘Cops’ taken off air after 32 seasons

US series ’Cops’ has been taken off air after 31 years following the protests in the US against police brutality.

The Paramount Network true-crime reality TV series had aired more than 1,100 episodes and the 33rd season was due to premier on June 8.

But no episodes have been shown since June 1 in the wake of the George Floyd killing.

A network spokesperson told The Hollywood Report: “Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return.”

The show was first broadcast on Fox in 1989 before it was taken up by Paramount’s predecessor, Spike TV, in 2013.

Despite being one of America’s longest running reality TV series, it faced heavy criticism over the years for glorying police aggression.

In 2013, civil rights group Color of Change began a campaign to cancel the show and called for advertisers to withdraw support.
