Wimbledon champion Simona Halep reveals she’s a ‘little worried’ ahead of US Open

Two-time Grand slam winner Simona Halep has admitted she is ‘worried to make the move’ and play in the US Open this summer.

The tournament is scheduled to take place on August 31 at Flushing Meadows, and will be the first major Grand Slam to be played since the coronavirus pandemic.

There has been uncertainty across the sport as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have both cast doubt over their participation in the event.

But Serena Williams is eager to return to competition after she announced she would be participating.

Halep, however, has said playing behind-closed-doors will be ‘difficult’.

The 28 year-old, who won the French Open in 2018 and Wimbledon a year later, told BBC's Wimbledon: The Best of the Championships: “It will be a little difficult, it depends on restrictions.”

She revealed that she is ‘a little bit worried,' and that she is still unsure if she will compete but that her plans are ‘not set in stone’.

The world No 2 added: “I have no idea at the moment because nobody knows what is going to happen after this month.”

But she is waiting to see ‘what the other players will do’.
