Women's basketball teams now available for gamers to choose on NBA 2K20

The Women's NBA league will feature in this year's edition of the world's most popular basketball video game.

For the first time, users of NBA 2K20 will be able to play as 12 different women's teams in a progressive step from the game's creators.

Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker is supportive of the idea as the sport makes another step towards gender equality.

Parker said: "Growing up, I always remembered watching male athletes on TV and playing as them in video games.

"Now, to have the WNBA be in the position we are and to have women featured prominently in NBA 2K20, we are allowing young girls and boys to have female athletes as role models."

The inclusion of the women's game is a way of attempting to make people more aware of the players in the WNBA and increase the popularity of the league.

Jeff Thomas, SVP of Development at Visual Concepts, conceded that fans have been requesting to be able to use women's players for years, and Parker was extremely complementary about the way they have gone about the integration.

"The 2K team has done an amazing job of making sure to not just put women into the game playing men's basketball," she added.

"I've seen first-hand the hard work they're doing to make this as real and authentic as possible to women's basketball."
