Women’s FA Cup Final: Everton 1-3 Manchester City - Holders defend FA Cup in thrilling game

Six months after the original date for the final, Willie Kirk’s Toffees will be looking to dethrone Gareth Taylor’s defending champions in what would be their first FA Cup triumph in a decade.

Meanwhile, City are bidding to lift the trophy for a third time in four years and would move level with Charlton as the fourth most successful team in the competition’s history with a win.

Everton 1-1 Manchester City

60 min: GOAL! Moments after Everton go so close through a Moe Wold header which was brilliantly saved by Roebuck, this time they are level!

A corner is swung in and Gauvin leaps just in between Stokes and Roebuck to flick a header home.

We are all square! Game on!

57 min: The more you watch that MacIver save the better it gets. She is down on the floor when the ball is rolling towards Kelly, but just moments later she is up making herself big and thwarting City from a second goal. Superb.

55 min: SO CLOSE TO TWO! Lavelle plays Weir inside and her shot across the goal hits the post! Then Kelly follows the ball up and it looks to be a certain goal but MacIver superbly tips it away!

Sensational goalkeeping to keep Everton in the game.

Everton 0-1 Manchester City

52 min: City have taken the pace off this game completely. They are playing it around the back with little ambition of pushing it forward.

Eventually Houghton tries to switch the ball to Kelly on the right-hand side but it runs out for a goal kick.

Everton 0-1 Manchester City

50 min: Everton getting to grips with the pace of Kelly now, she was quiet for the last 20 minutes or so prior to half-time.

But as the Toffees press higher up the pitch her pace will always remain a concern.

Everton 0-1 Manchester City

47 min: Manchester City start the second half how they finished the first - on the front foot. Mewis turns on the edge of the area and gets a shot away but it’s blocked and bounces to MacIver.

Too much space again for the American.

46 min: Here we go then, the second half is underway!

Worth noting that Valerie Gauvin has come out for the second half. Big boost for the Toffees.

All smiles for Sam Mewis in her first FA Cup Final.

Willie Kirk will be disappointed that for all of Manchester City’s pressure they ended up scoring from a free-kick.

Mewis rose unchallenged in the box from the corner, something the Everton boss will be pulling his hair out about.

Valerie Gauvin has looked lively, but she has had little support up front. Christiansen, Raso, Graham and Sorensen need to get closer to her in this second half.

HALF-TIME: So Gauvin goes off the pitch but she has not been substituted. Think Willie Kirk will make a decision during the break.

Sam Mewis’ header has given the holders the lead after 45 minutes here and it is a thoroughly deserved scoreline.

Can Everton put the pressure on in the second half? We’ll be back shortly.
