World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua pleads with top athletes to join him in fight against racism

World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has called on top sports stars to join him in the fight against racism.

The 30-year-old Brit has been vocal in his support of the Black Lives Matter movement and even read a speech out at a gathering in Watford last month.

And now, while aligning himself with The Sun’s Time For Change Debate, Joshua has asked other sports men and women to share his determination for ending racial inequality.

He said: "Athletes have the biggest platform, so we all judge on that.

"I think an individual trying to make a change is a lot more difficult than a union of people trying.

"And I think the images that we need to represent are important.

"The same way I rally for Under Armour, the same way I rally for Range Rover is the same way I should rally for the African Carribean community."

"In 300 years, when none of us are here, there’s going to be everlasting change. Whether it turns into a hashtag or not, this moment will never be forgotten."

Joshua was criticised last month when he read out someone else’s speech at the Black Lives Matter gathering in Watford.

In the speech, Joshua read: "We need to be united in non-violent demonstrations, show them where it hurts.

"Abstain from spending your money in their shops and economies and invest in black-owned businesses. And that’s for all communities if you want to uplift yourself. Invest in your own businesses."

AJ suffered backlash to the comments but refused to back down by later adding: "If you think I’m a racist, go f**k yourself!

"If you watch the full video, the speech was passed around for someone to read and I took the lead.

"I personally spoke from the heart about the Watford community, ideas of us personally investing 7 figures to create unity and opportunities and adding change to the African/Caribbean community.

"Shops aren’t the issue here. Before you talk s*** you better boycott racism. I said what I said and I will act to make change."
