Alec Baldwin denies failing to cooperate with Rust shooting investigation after police issue warrant for phone

10 January 2022

Alec Baldwin has rejected suggestions he has not been complying with the legal investigation into the fatal shooting that took place on the set of his latest movie Rust.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, was fatally shot and director Joel Souza, 48, injured, by a gun handled by the 63-year-old actor on the set in New Mexico last October.

An investigation into the shooting has since been launched and while there has been no claim made publicly that Baldwin has failed to cooperate with it, he seemed to feel the need to clarify that in a video posted to his Instagram account at the weekend.

Recorded while he is sitting in a parked car, he refers in the clip to a warrant that was issued on December 16, 2021, to seize his phone as part of the investigation.

He said: “Any suggestion that I am not complying with requests or orders or demands or search warrants about my phone is bulls**t, that’s a lie.”

The Beetle Juice star went on to say that authorities don’t have the phone because they have to go through proper legal channels to get it and that those channels are more complicated for a subject who lives in another state.

He vowed however that he would “1000% comply” with the investigation.
