WWE legend James ‘Kamala’ Harris has died at the age of 70 after complications from coronavirus.

The wrestler, 70, was one of Vince McMahon’s leading stars in the 80s and 90s and continued to make sporadic appearances in shows up until 2006.

He was a giant of a man at 6ft 7in tall and 380 pounds, and famed for his trademark black and white face paint which he wore during every match.

Part of ‘The Ugandan Giant’s’ act was also to carry a spear and shield around.

WWE released a statement on Sunday evening which read: "WWE is saddened to learn that James Harris, known to WWE fans as Kamala, has passed away at age 70.

"Under the frightening face paint of Kamala, the 6-foot-7, 380-pound Harris battled the greatest Superstars in sports-entertainment history, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Andre the Giant.

"He terrorized opponents and thrilled audiences in Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, WCW and WWE until 2006.

"WWE extends its condolences to Harris' family, friends and fans."

Harris suffered from multiple health issues in the latter stages of his life, most notably having his left leg amputated in 2011 due to issues surrounding diabetes and high blood pressure.

Then in 2012 he was forced to have his other leg cut off below the knee.
