'Your country needs you': social media's emotional reaction as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is admitted to intensive care

MPs, political figures and former Prime Ministers have reacted on social media to the news of Prime Minister Boris Johnson being admitted to intensive care as his coronavirus condition worsens.

Mr Johnson was diagnosed ten days ago and admitted to St Thomas' hospital in London last night.

MP and former Home Scretary Sajid Javid tweeted: "Boris is one of the strongest people I know. Thinking of him, Carrie and his family tonight. Get well soon, the country needs you."

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan wrote: "Praying for the Prime Minister’s swift recovery tonight. @GSTTNHS has some of the finest medical staff in the world, and he couldn't be in safer hands.

Labour leader Keir Starmer wrote: "Terribly sad news. All the country’s thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his family during this incredibly difficult time."

Lord Chancellor and secretary of state for Justice Robert Buckland wrote: "Our thoughts and prayers are with our Prime Minister @BorisJohnson and his family at this time."

Former Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "Thinking of @BorisJohnson and his family tonight. Get well soon. You are in great hands and we all want you safe, well and back in @10DowningStreet ."

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak tweeted: "My thoughts tonight are with @BorisJohnson and @carriesymonds . I know he’ll be getting the best care possible and will come out of this even stronger."
