Zoe Smith achieves career best finish at IWF World Championships

Zoe Smith achieved a career best finish at a World Championships as she ranked sixth in the final of the -59kg category in Pattaya, Thailand.

The event is divided into two lifts, the first being the Snatch (lifting the barbell in one motion) and then followed by the Clean and Jerk (lifting in two separate stages) and Smith lifted a total of 216kg in the final.

The event was won by Kuo Hsing-Chun from Taiwan as she lifted 246kg in total and defended her World Championship title.

Briton Smith won a Commonwealth gold medal in 2014 at Glasgow in the -58kg category, but after a stint at the -64kg category, she moved division to -59kg to boost her qualification hopes for Tokyo 2020.

Earlier this year, Smith won her first European medal with a bronze in the weight class of -64kg and in June, she broke a national record at the British Weightlifting Championships in Coventry.
