Dame Sarah Storey believes para-cycling is not receiving the coverage it deserves after the 2019 world championships were not televised.

The 14-time Paralympic medallist praised the efforts of British Cycling in promoting the sport saying, but is disappointed by the wider attention it gets.

She said: "In para-cycling we’re very much reliant on our governing body to promote us, and luckily British Cycling are really good in that area."

"Outside of the Paralympics there is never any live TV coverage, there is never a media tribune, never a mixed zone, you never see people attending our championships to report on them."

The 42-year-old mother of two claimed women's sport was 'on a parallel journey' but that para-sport must 'find a way' to get recognition.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she aired her views on the lack of coverage para-cycling is currently receiving.

"We still don't have much visibility. We had exactly the same coverage at this year's world as we had when I first raced. None."

Storey used this year's road world championships in Yorkshire as an example of the direction the sport should be aiming. 

It was the first time para-events have been integrated into the standard race programme, and despite para-athletes not racing for an official world title, she believed in was a move in the right direction.

She said: "It showed what was possible. Hopefully it's a step towards a fully integrated world champs."
