Cameron McGeehan swaps Barnsley for Belgium

06 August 2020

Cameron McGeehan has left Barnsley to join Belgian Pro League side KV Oostende.

The midfielder, who joined the Reds from Luton in 2017, has signed a three-year deal and joins Toby Sibbick at the club after his loan move was announced earlier this week.

McGeehan was persuaded to move to Belgium by former Barnsley chief executive Gauthier Ganaye, who is now Oostende’s executive president.

He told his new club’s website: “It’s the first time I will be playing outside of England but it’s a good thing to come out of my comfort zone.

“The Belgian competition is the perfect platform to make progression and I like the way of playing that KVO is implementing over here.

“I know Gauthier from my time in Barnsley and he convinced me to come to Oostende.”

Ganaye said: “I know Cameron very well from my own time in Barnsley and I’m so excited he is joining KVO. He totally fits our style of play and he is used to playing that way because of his time in Barnsley. I’m sure he will be able to shine in the Belgian competition.”
