Chris Martin leaving Derby after failing to agree new contract

31 July 2020

Derby striker Chris Martin has failed to agree terms on a new contract at Pride Park.

Martin had extended his stay with Derby following the coronavirus outbreak until July 31.

Derby chief executive Stephen Pearce said: “Chris has a long-standing association with the football club since arriving from Norwich City initially on loan in February 2013 before signing permanently in the summer.

“We wish to thank Chris for his seven-year service to the football club and we will endeavour to remain in dialogue with him and his representatives and will always leave the door open for a potential return if he does not find a suitable club.”

Scotland striker Martin, 31, scored 76 goals in 224 appearances for Derby and has had loan spells at Fulham, Hull and Reading in recent seasons.

England Under-19 defender Liam Buchanan, meanwhile, has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2022.

Buchanan, 19, made seven appearances for Derby last season, five in the Sky Bet Championship and two in the Carabao Cup.
