Wayne Rooney will be assessed ahead of Derby’s Sky Bet Championship game with Reading but Martyn Waghorn will definitely be absent.

Rams captain Rooney has been struggling with a muscle problem, while striker Martyn Waghorn has been ruled out due to a calf injury.

United States international Duane Holmes is not expected to be available because of injury.

Defender Krystain Bielik (knee) and winger Tom Lawrence (shoulder) remain sidelined for Phillip Cocu’s side.

Reading are without Yakou Meite as he starts his three-game ban.

Last season’s 17-goal top scorer was sent off in last season’s final day 4-1 defeat to Swansea in June.

New boss Veljko Paunovic has no fresh injury worries for the trip to Pride Park.

Josh Laurent could make his league debut after joining from Shrewsbury while Ovie Ejaria made a permanent switch from Liverpool after two previous loan spells.
