Duo could make Barnsley debuts in season opener against Luton

Defender Michal Helik and midfielder Isaac Christie-Davies are in line for their Barnsley debuts as the Tykes get their Sky Bet Championship campaign under way against Luton.

Helik put pen to paper on a three-year deal after joining from Polish Ekstraklasa outfit KS Cracovia earlier this week and the centre-half could be thrust into action at Oakwell.

Christie-Davies could also make his bow after signing a three-year deal following his release by Liverpool.

Barnsley have no new injury concerns, with only Ben Williams on the treatment table. The defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at a training camp last month and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Luton will once again be without left-back Dan Potts.

The defender was unavailable for last weekend’s Carabao Cup win over Norwich and although it is hoped he will return shortly, he will miss the trip to South Yorkshire.

Rhys Norrington-Davies deputised for Potts against the Canaries, making his Hatters debut after joining from Sheffield United on a season-long loan. The 21-year-old is set to feature again.

Fellow defender Tom Lockyer could make his debut after his return from representing Wales in the last week while Croatia goalkeeper Simon Sluga could come back between the posts having been on international duty as well.
