Manchester United players 'donate a third of their wages to NHS'

Manchester United's captain Harry Maguire is believed to have asked his team-mates to donate 30% per cent of their wages to the NHS.

According the The Daily Mail, United chairman Ed Woodward spoke to Maguire about the donation and the captain proceeded to rally the team together.

The squad earn up to £375,000 per week each and have donated 30 percent of their wages for one month, equating to £3.5 million.

The decision has come after a row erupted this week about Premier League pay cuts.

Tottenham Hotspur bore the brunt of the backlash after they furloughed their backroom staff while the club's executives and players were still earning full pay.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in the Government's daily press conference yesterday that taking a pay cut is the least Premier League players should do.
