Gosden pair bid for Falmouth glory

08 July 2020

Terebellum and Nazeef give trainer John Gosden a strong hand in Newmarket’s Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes – for which a field of seven has been declared.

Both horses put up excellent performances at Royal Ascot and now seek their first Group One success in Friday’s one-mile feature for fillies and mares.

Terebellum went so close to winning at the top level against colts and geldings when beaten only a head by Circus Maximus in the Queen Anne Stakes.

The four-year-old is a dual Group Two winner, while her stablemate Nazeef landed her first victory at that level in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at the Royal meeting.

David O’Meara’s Agincourt, who was just touched off in that race, renews rivalry.

Richard Hannon’s Billesdon Brook and the William Haggas-trained One Master are proven Group One performers.

So too is Aidan O’Brien’s Magic Wand, and the well-travelled five-year-old is turning out again quickly after finishing fourth in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.

James Tate’s Under The Stars, who was sixth in the 1000 Guineas, is the only three-year-old in the field.

Dandalla, impressive winner of the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting, heads a field of 10 for the Group Two Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.

Karl Burke’s two-year-old filly holds strong claims on the evidence of her six-length romp in the Group Three contest.

The O’Brien-trained More Beautiful will try to make amends for a disappointing display in the Queen Mary Stakes, for which she was sent off the evens favourite. She had won in eye-catching fashion at Naas on her debut and now steps up to six furlongs.

Ralph Beckett’s Time Scale looked an improving filly when winning the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket last month.

Among other promising types involved are Brian Meehan’s Ghaaliya, Kevin Ryan’s Hala Hala Hala, She Do from Roger Varian’s stable and David Loughnane’s duo of Chica Bella and Santosha.
