John Brayford heads home late winner for Burton against Accrington

John Brayford’s 87th-minute header secured Burton’s first league win under new boss Jake Buxton courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Accrington Stanley at the Pirelli Stadium.

All the goals came in the second half as Joe Powell netted his third goal of the season to give Albion the lead only for Joe Pritchard to cancel it out 10 minutes later.

Burton skipper Brayford then decided the game late on with a header that visiting goalkeeper Toby Savin was unable to keep out.

Albion goalkeeper Ben Garratt produced two fine first-half stops with his legs to deny Ryan Cassidy and then Dion Charles, after good work on the left by Chelsea loanee Tariq Uwakwe.

Savin made a smart save from Powell who fired an ambitious 25-yarder towards goal early in the second half, but there was nothing the Stanley keeper could do when Powell swept home after 72 minutes from Kane Hemmings’ astute lay-off.

Pritchard equalised for Stanley, netting from close range after Ross Sykes had struck the woodwork and Albion could not clear, but Brayford had the last say with a superb angled header from Ben Fox’s cross that Savin tipped onto the post but could not keep out.
