Anthony Joshua v Kubrat Pulev 'likely' to move to end of July, says Hearn

Anthony Joshua's fight against Kubrat Pulev at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20 is set to be moved to the end of July, according to the Brit's promoter Eddie Hearn.

The 30 year-old unified heavyweight champion is set to return to the UK for the first time since he boxed Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium in September 2018.

And while Hearn insists the clash will still go ahead, he believes it is likely the coronavirus pandemic means it will be pushed back a month.

Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “I’m hoping that we can see boxing back in June and I believe, I’m confident we’ll see it back in July.

“It’s going to be interesting to see what happens in terms of dates. There’s people talking about doing events behind closed doors, definitely something we’ll look at.

“The only thing we’ve got scheduled for June at the moment is June 27 in Newcastle, and June 20 which is obviously Anthony Joshua [Vs Kubrat Pulev] but hasn’t officially been announced on sale yet - that’s likely to move back to the end of July as well.

“The only event confirmed and still in place and on sale because the tickets were carried forward is the Newcastle event - Lewis Ritson against [Miguel] Vazquez that’s June 27.

“I hope we’ll be alright by then, but again, who knows."

Joshua has not fought since re-claiming his world heavyweight titles against Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia in December of last year.

Hearn's Matchroom Boxing recently postponed their big heavyweight fights in May, with fellow Brit Dillian Whyte taking on Povetkin now on July 4, while Dereck Chisora's clash with Oleksandr Usyk will also be re-scheduled.
