Champions League final set to be played in Lisbon on August 23 at end of two-week mini tournament
This season’s Champions League final is expected to be played on August 23 in Lisbon.
Originally, the final was scheduled for Istanbul on May 30 but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And now, according to Sky Sports News reporter Bryan Swanson, UEFA are planning to announce a mini tournament between the eight quarter-finalists to decide the European champions.
He said: "LATEST: UEFA expected to approve mini tournament in Lisbon for remaining games in Champions League this season.
"1-leg QF & SF. Final Aug 23. No decision yet on last 16 games or Europa League. #SSN #COVID."
The Champions League was suspended in March when the tournament was mid-way through the round of 16 ties.
As a result, according to Goal, the remaining last 16 matches are set to be played in Barcelona and Turin before teams link up in Lisbon.
No comment has yet been made on this season’s Europa League.
Organisers are set to meet this week to formally decide how both of Europe’s biggest competitions will finish their campaigns.
