Darts stars Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld to face off in virtual darts match to raise money for NHS

Darts stars Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld are set to face off in a virtual darts match from their homes this evening to help raise money for the NHS.

Coronavirus has forced sporting events from around the world to be cancelled or postponed, but darts have found a way to keep the fans entertained during lockdown.

And the pair who have won 21 titles between them will raise money for the charity called Heroes.

Paddy Power are also set to donate £1,000 for every 180 hit.

The match is being played on a Target Nexus dartboard which allows the players to see and speak to one another and can be filmed on mounted smart phones in their homes.

Target Darts spokesperson James Tattersall said: "Sport provides entertainment and brings people together.

"We wanted to give sports fans some action and for sports stars to have some competitive fun – what better way than using our online dart network to create a Darts from Home match!"

"It may not be Ally Pally, but Darts From Home should at least offer some relief for all my fellow sports fans who are going stir crazy during lockdown," a Paddy Power spokesperson added.

The match will be streamed on Paddy Power's Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channels and will begin this evening at 7pm.
