Bournemouth and Watford charged by the FA after Vitality Stadium brawl

Bournemouth and Watford have both been charged with misconduct after a late brawl marred last weekend’s league game at the Vitality Stadium.

Watford’s Joao Pedro and Bournemouth’s Jack Wilshere were both sent off by referee Tony Harrington after tempers had flared during stoppage-time.

The melee, which overshadowed Bournemouth’s 1-0 win, was sparked by Pedro’s late sliding challenge on Jefferson Lerma. Wilshere and Pedro were both sent off after receiving second yellow cards.

A Football Association statement said: “AFC Bournemouth and Watford FC have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20 following their EFL Championship fixture on Saturday 27th February.

“Both clubs allegedly failed to ensure that their players and/or club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 96th minute of the fixture and they have until Friday 5th March to provide their responses.”

Watford have since reported several abusive tweets from their fans aimed at Lerma to Hertfordshire Police and insisted the “loathsome individuals” behind the posts are “not welcome to support our wonderful club”.

Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal in the 61st minute.

The Cherries are sixth in the table, eight points behind fellow promotion hopefuls Watford, who are third.
