Walsall have announced the departure of former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old joined the Saddlers in July 2019 after a spell at Indonesian outfit Mitra Kukar and went on to make 44 appearances, scoring once, for the Sky Bet League Two club.

A statement on Walsall’s website read: “Walsall Football Club can confirm that midfielder Danny Guthrie has today left the club by mutual consent.

“We would like to thank Danny for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him well for the future.”
