Huddersfield have signed goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Canada international Leutwiler, 31, has joined the Sky Bet Championship club as a free agent after leaving Fleetwood last month.

Town’s head of football operations Leigh Bromby told the club’s official website: “Jayson arrives at the club with good experience and having played regularly in League One during the first half of the season.

“It’s his job to show us what he can do every day and to push Ryan Schofield, the current incumbent of the number one shirt.”

Leutwiler, who made 18 appearances for Fleetwood during the first half of the season, began his career in England with Middlesbrough and has also had spells at Shrewsbury and Blackburn.

He is Huddersfield’s fourth January signing following the arrivals of forward Sorba Thomas from Boreham Wood, defender Richard Keogh, on loan from MK Dons, and midfielder Duane Holmes from Derby.
