John White extends Southend stay

01 February 2021

Southend skipper John White is delighted he can “fully concentrate on everything that needs to be done here” after signing a new contract at the club.

White is the longest-serving player at Roots Hall and recently made his 250th appearance for the Shrimpers, who are languishing at the foot of Sky Bet League Two.

And the 34-year-old, whose new deal expires at the end of the season, insists he will do all he can to ensure Southend retain their Football League status.

“It’s so nice to get it out of the way because now I can fully concentrate on everything that needs to be done here,” White told the club’s official website.

“We’ve got a big battle on our hands and I think it needs everyone to be fully focused and committed to do what we need to do and turn things around.

“We need to come together more than we ever have done to put things right. We’re a tight unit with the players and staff and we need to show that.

“I want to be able to help get this club back to where it should be.”
