Burton’s Michael Mancienne has signed a new one-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium.

Mancienne, who can play in defence or midfield, signed a short-term deal in February and went on to make 17 appearances for the Sky Bet League One club, 14 of which were starts.

“I’m buzzing, I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I love the vibe and the family feel (of the club),” Mancienne told Burton’s website.

“The manager (Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink) pulled me to one side after training and spoke to me about (staying on), and before he even finished his sentence I said ‘a million per cent’.

“I’ve found working with the manager and staff a breath of fresh air.

“The boys have been great, made me feel welcome from day one. It’s a great group, no bad eggs and everyone gets along really well.”

Mancienne, began his career with Chelsea and has played for QPR, Wolves and Nottingham Forest, as well as having spells overseas with Bundesliga club Hamburg and New England Revolution in the MLS.

Hasselbaink said: “We’re really happy that Michael has committed to us for next season.

“He came in after a few months without football after playing in America for a few years and he did really well in the games he played for us.

“He’s got that experience you need, he gives us options in defence and midfield and we think he’ll only benefit from a full pre-season with us.”
