Midfielder Josh Campbell signs contract extension to 2027 at Hibernian

Hibernian midfielder Josh Campbell has signed a contract extension which ties him to Easter Road until the summer of 2027.

The 22-year-old has made 66 appearances for Hibs and has eight goals and five assists this season alone.

Manager Lee Johnson recently expressed frustration at the fact Ryan Porteous was not tied up on a longer, more-lucrative contract before being sold to Watford for a reported fee of £500,000 last month.

Johnson said: “We’re delighted to agree this new deal with Josh as he’s not only vital for us now, but will be in the future too.

“Josh is an excellent player – he’s industrious, fit as anything, brave, trustworthy and he will do anything to help his football club.

“He’s a really good trainer and a great lad who is always looking at ways he can improve.

“Josh is the type of player that the other young lads in the academy should be looking up to. He’s a great example for them.

“He – and the coaching staff – are looking to continue adding value to his all-round game, and Josh should have an eye on senior international caps.”

Meanwhile, striker Kevin Nisbet is in with a chance of returning from a hamstring injury in Saturday’s cinch Premiership clash with Kilmarnock.

Johnson said: “He is probably 50-50 for Saturday. That was his first training session with the boys.

“Certainly, potentially off the bench but we may choose to give him that extra time.”
