Jorge Masvidal v Kamaru Usman set for UFC 251 main event as both pass coronavirus tests

Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman are set to clash at UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi this Saturday after both successfully passed coronavirus tests.

Usman was due to take on Gilbert Burns in the Middle East main event, but the Brazilian was forced out of the show when he tested positive for COVID-19.

With the show seemingly on the verge of losing its headline fight, Masvidal has risen to the challenge and decided to step in with 'The Nigerian Nightmare’.

Speaking about having to pull out of the fight, Burns said: "Devastating news, not feeling well but I'm going to win this battle! Stay safe out there! Much love."

Usman and Masvidal will still have to take another three coronavirus tests before they get into the octagon on Saturday.

They are currently preparing to fly out to the Middle East after their first negative COVID-19 result in Las Vegas.

UFC 251 will be the first show from Dana White’s ‘Fight Island’ which is expected to be an incredible spectacle for the fighters to throw down in.

The leading MMA organisation was the first major sports company to return following the coronavirus crisis, with the first show airing back on May 9.

A further seven UFC events have taken place since then behind closed doors as combat sports continues to resume with bigger and better fights.

Masvidal has won his last three fights, with the last coming against Nate Diaz in November.

The 35-year-old also holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history after he blew away Ben Askren in just five seconds.

Meanwhile, Usman has not lost an MMA bout for seven years, with his record currently standing at 16 victories and just one defeat.
