54 min: Ok, now I am convinced the Liverpool players are still drunk.

Mane is found eight yards in front of goal but he can’t sort out his feet and the ball rolls over/around/through his legs and harmlessly away.

BIZARRE!

53 min: Every time City come forward they look like they are going to score. It’s blistering from the former champions.

Sterling really fancies this now and picks up the ball in a little pocket of space again. He finds Foden but his lay off is poor.

50 min: Another couple of chances! Firstly, Sterling speeds into the Liverpool penalty area and his shot is deflected which forces Alisson into a good stop.

Then De Bruyne finds space on the right, pulls it back for Foden and his shot is cleared off the line by Van Dijk.

This is very, very one sided now.

49 min: CHANCE! A long throw from TAA doesn’t reach his target and Jesus races in.

He tries to find some space ahead of Van Dijk but his shot is wayward and doesn’t trouble Alisson.

47 min: Not quite the fiery start to the second half which we saw in the first. Hopefully it’s a case of getting back into the flow of the game rather than the players feeling burnt out following a high tempo first 45.

45 min: Back underway with the second half.

Not what the champions would have had in mind here. We’re about to get underway in the second half. They’ll want to avoid embarrassment.

Can the champions conjure up anything in this second half? You would think not. Still, it’s been a thoroughly entertaining match so far and I’d take another 45 of it, whatever the score.

I said it was a big night for young Phil Foden and he is proving himself here tonight. A lovely finish as well.
