Ralph Beckett is confident Manuela De Vega can give a bold account as she bids to return to winning ways in the Betway Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock on Sunday.

The daughter of Lope De Vega will be looking for her first victory since taking a Listed prize at Pontefract in October 2018 in the mile-and-a-half Group Three contest.

Despite failing to get her head in front last season, Manuela De Vega finished second on three occasions, including on her final start in the Group One Grosser Preis Von Bayern at Munich in November.

Beckett said: “Manuela De Vega is in good shape and has done plenty of work. Hopefully they’ve had some rain at Haydock as that would suit her lovely.

“It was frustrating last season not to get her head in front at least once, as she is a very useful filly.

“Her sister improved with age and hopefully she will do as well.”

The John Gosden-trained Fanny Logan enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, rattling off a hat-trick of Listed wins and a Group Three at Newmarket before finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita.

Although the Sea The Stars filly is yet to win beyond an extended mile and a quarter, her rider Robert Havlin is optimistic that can change provided conditions are not too testing.

He said: “I’ve won a good few races on her, including a couple of Listed races. She is back up to a mile and a half, but both times she has tackled it the ground has been really soft and on better ground hopefully she will see out the trip.

“She improved the whole way through last year. She is a filly that has relaxed with the more racing she has done and she has ended up getting a really good turn of foot over a mile and a quarter.

“She was progressive through last year, so let’s hope she is straight back on it.”

John Quinn hopes to get a guide as to which race at Royal Ascot he will run stable star Liberty Beach in following her reappearance in the Listed Betway EBF Cecil Frail Fillies’ Stakes.

Having run out an impressive winner of the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on her penultimate outing, the daughter of Cable Bay will start back over six furlongs having finished second on her first attempt at the trip on her final appearance last season in the Lowther Stakes at York.

Quinn said: “We are happy with Liberty Beach and she is in good form, so fingers crossed for a good run.

“I’ve been very pleased with her through the winter. She has got a good temperament and one would hope she would train on, but you never know until they get to the track.

“She isn’t the flashiest work horse, but we are pleased with what we have been seeing.

“We thought we would win races with her last year, but we didn’t think she would get that high up so early on so we were pleasantly surprised.

“Depending on how this goes we could look at the Commonwealth Cup or I might go for the King’s Stand Stakes instead.”
