Norwich keen to sign 19-year-old midfielder Ethan Ampadu on loan from Chelsea

Norwich want to take Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu on loan.

The Canaries are in talks to sign the 19-year-old midfielder for the season, the PA news agency understands.

Ampadu is highly rated at Stamford Bridge but the Blues are ready to let him move to Norfolk to gain experience following a frustrating loan stint at RB Leipzig last term, when he made only two starts and seven appearances in total.

The Wales international, who moved to the London club from Exeter in 2017, has played 12 times for Chelsea but is yet to make a Premier League breakthrough, with his one substitute appearance coming against Huddersfield almost three years ago.

Norwich are reshaping their squad after relegation from the Premier League and have have made six senior signings, including Kieran Dowell from Everton, in a quick start to the transfer window.

The Canaries also want Burnley defender Ben Gibson but face competition for the 27-year-old.

They have rejected a £10million bid from Liverpool for left-back Jamal Lewis and the Premier League champions now appear to be moving for Olympiacos’ Konstantinos Tsimikas instead.

Tom Trybull, Moritz Leitner and Josip Drmic will be allowed to leave having failed to make an impression last season.
