Preston close to full strength against Swansea

11 September 2020

Preston boss Alex Neil has a near full-strength squad from which to choose for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship opener against Stoke.

Keeper Declan Rudd is back in training after recovering from an injury which kept him out of the club’s pre-season fixtures, although the game is likely to come too soon for him.

Only striker Louis Moult, who is working his way back from a ruptured cruciate ligament, will otherwise be unavailable to Neil.

The Lilywhites kicked off their season a fortnight ago with a 4-0 Carabao Cup first round victory over League Two Mansfield with goals from Tom Barkhuizen, Sean Maguire, Patrick Bauer and Josh Harrop.

Midfielder George Byers is Swansea head coach Steve Cooper’s only injury absentee.

The 24-year-old, who became a father earlier this week, is sidelined by a groin problem and will not travel to Deepdale.

Cooper’s international contingent, including Ben Cabango, Connor Roberts and Marc Guehi, all returned to South Wales unscathed and are available for selection.

Newcastle keeper Freddie Woodman has rejoined the club on a second season-long loan deal and will be in contention along with summer arrivals Korey Smith, Morgan Gibbs-White and Jamal Lowe, who like him started last weekend’s Carabao Cup win at Newport, and Guehi.
