Rochdale have signed midfielder Alex Newby following his departure from Chorley.

The 24-year-old joins Dale on a two-year deal after making almost 100 appearances for a side relegated from the National League this season.

“Playing in the Football League has been my goal since the start (of my playing career), so I’m delighted that it has materialised,” Newby told Rochdale’s website.

“This move has been a long time coming due to what has gone on with the coronavirus, so I’m delighted to get it wrapped up and sorted.

“I’ve had my heart set on coming here for a long time.”
